Horse Ridge Saturday January 27

Activity: Mountain Bike
Weather: 25 with fog and low clouds
Trail conditions: fair to good

The trail up to the first fence crossing is in very good shape - dry (frozen) with little ruts or ice. Above the fence is another story with frequent frozen rutty mud sections, and increasing ice as you ascend the ridge. Sand Canyon is poor with occasional frozen ruts and steep sections of ice. Stay below the first fence and the riding is very good.

Horse Ridge Tuesday January 23

Activity: trail run
Weather: 54 and sunny
Trail conditions: good

Lower sections of the trail are dry and firm. Upper sections have occasional light snow and mud. 55 and sunny in January - can’t beat it! Thanks global warming.

Mt. Bachelor Ski Report

Activity: Alpine skiing/Snowboarding
Weather: Cold, clear, and windy.
New Snow: 0″

Skiing at Bachelor has been prety good despite no significan amount of new snow in about 5 days. The winds have been high all week and have been depositing ‘fresh’ snow on most of the north and east sides of the mountain. This combined with good grooming has made for fun skiing. The snow is staying very cold and has a great grip for fast turns that seem to hold the skis edge no matter how many G’s you apply. Wax blue if your planning on going up.

Virginia Meissner Nordic Report

Activity: Skate skiing/Classic Skiing
Weather: 23 and clear
Grooming: Good

This week has been difficult to wax for. The suun has been shining, but the air temps have been low. There has been some minimal freeze-thaw action and the tracks have been very fast. There is some trail debris from high winds earlier this week, but nothing that will slow you down. Good wax selections have been purple (swix) and blue with a touch of yellow (toko). Watch for changes in the snow temps this week however.

Pilot Butte Run/Walk conditions

Activity: Running/Walking
Weather: Clear and Cold
Trail Condition: Some snow/ice on the north side.

As always the north side of the butte has been holding some snow despite no new snow in almost 5 days. That said, access to the top is still possible. Be cautious of ice spots throughout the day and good traction shoes (hiking boots) and warm clothing will be a good call. Remember to shed layers on the way up and reapply on the way down.

Horse Ridge Tuesday January 16

Activity: trail run
Weather: 33 and snowing
Trail conditions: good

Light snow covers much of the trail but is not enough to be a problem. Mountain biking is good. Running is good but watch for frozen mountain bike ruts that could be ankle biters. No mud at this time.

Horse Ridge Wednesday January 10th

Activity: trail run
Weather: 33 and partly sunny
Trail conditions: good

I just ran the lower loop today but this was the worst section over the last few days due to mud. Today conditions have improved. There is limited mud along the fence-highway 20 part of the trail, but most of the soil has either drained or is frozen. Conditions are good for running and riding. I would expect light ice above the lower junction, but in limited amounts.

Horse Ridge Monday January 8

Activity: trail run
Weather: 55 and sunny (crazy for January!)
Trail conditions: fair to good

Recent snow and the last few days warm weather has resulted in a combination of mud at lower elevations and soft ice/snow at top. The snow is cover is very thin. Trail is in fine condition for both running and mountain biking, but expect to get a little muddy.
