The Bend Oregon Outdoor Report

Horse Ridge Trail

The Horse Ridge trailhead is approximately 15 miles east of Bend on Highway 20.

Note that most trail descriptions online for Horse Ridge are out of date and incorrect - the trail system at Horse Ridge is new in the last five years. The old system of jeep roads are described on most sites. Both trailhead location and trail systems have changed.

Trail descriptions at sites like Dirtworld.com and Trails.com are incorrect - disregard.

Approximately 20 miles east of Bend, at the base of the Horse Ridge Pass on Highway 20, take a right on Horse Ridge Frontage Road. Drive a few hundred feet and you will see a dirt parking area on the left. Park here and access the trail by climbing over the barbed-wire fence (there is a low spot in the fence here).

There is a junction at the trailhead. It is generally best to take the left fork of the trail for the climb. The right fork is steep and rocky in places and is a better downhill. The trail has several spurs. I’ll update this page with more trail details soon.
